Yesterday, on Monday, October 7, 2024, the opening of the Urban October events took place at our faculty as part of the World Habitat Days. We highlighted the importance of wood as a material of the future in design. The event was hosted by the ever-charismatic and inspiring doc. dr. Blažka Müller. The opening was led by the acting dean, prof. Nada Rožmanec Matičič, univ. dipl. ing. arh., who emphasized the faculty’s commitment to sustainable development and responsible action in her speech, creating a relaxed atmosphere and ensuring that guests felt the importance of the topics.

Honorary speeches were prepared by the following eminent guests – the Ambassador of India, Ms. Namrata S. Kumar, prof. Rajendra Kumar (LSAD), Zoran Bricman (Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sports), Jurij Dobrila (DOS), Bernard Likar (GZS, Wood Cluster) and the director of the Higher Vocational School for Wood and Design, dr. Miroslav Novak.

This was followed by a conference on the topic “Wood as a material of the future in design,” where experts; prof. dr. Jasna Hrovatin, doc. Inge Kalan Lipar, doc. Karin Košak Arzenšek, pred. Špela Klara Jambrek, assoc. prof. dr. Danijela Domljan, dr. Margarita Bego and doc. dr. Iris Lobavš Kukavičič, doc. Ivan Bon and Ms. Zeynep Tuna Ultav; discussed the potential of wood. Presentations by companies M-Sora d.d. (Liza Križnar) and Podgorje d.o.o. (Denis Stepančič, Darko Šurila) enriched the program with insights into new sustainable production practices based on the use of wood.

The last event was a Design Talk – a round table led by prof. Nada Rožmanec Matičič, where innovative approaches to solving global challenges with creative proposals were presented. Contributions were made by pred. Špela Klara Jambrek, doc. dr. Petra Bole, a student of the Faculty of Design, Špela Fajdiga and senior pred. Tjaša Čakš (NEB project Tiny Houses).
